WELCOME TO OUR BUSINESS DISTRICTS... 1. Overview
Mt. Washington Business Districts offer a unique atmosphere unlike any other Pittsburgh MainStreet community. Perhaps the most exceptional feature of this area is the connection to Pittsburgh's number one tourist attraction, Grandview Avenue. Every year hundreds of thousands of visitors flock to catch a penthouse view of the City's downtown skyline. This view at night received accolades as being the number two most beautiful view in the country in a 2003 USA Weekend article. Recently, Grandview Avenue became designated as a Pennsylvania State Scenic Byway, making it another reason for people to live, work and visit here. Flanking the business district is Grand View Scenic Byway Park, Pittsburgh's newest 280 acre park south of the three rivers. Our Business Districts see a large amount of pedestrian traffic commuting to downtown Pittsburgh via the Monongahela and Duquesne Inclines, historic cable cars in operation for over 100 years. Come in from the view and you will find a bustling community with a number of food and beverage choices, pharmacies, banks, and professional services. From fueling up at one of the three convenience fuel stations, to dropping off the laundry at the local dry cleaners, Mt. Washington's business districts offer a unique experience and a variety of choices for everyone. About the Mt. Washington MainStreets Program Mt. Washington Community Development Corporation has been working with the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania Downtown Center as part of the MainStreets Program. This program offers opportunities for neighborhood business districts to become thriving viable economic centers for the communities they serve. Business districts in Mt. Washington who benefit from the MainStreets program are the Shiloh Street business corridor which includes Shiloh Street, Virginia Avenue, and Southern Avenue, and the Boggs/Bailey Business Corridor which includes Boggs Avenue, Bailey Avenue and Wyoming Street. The third business district serving the community is the Grandview Avenue Restaurant Corridor, which provides high end dining facilities to residents and visitors. |
