Business Development

Redbeards on Shiloh Street.

MWCDC’s business district development efforts  support the retention and expansion of existing businesses while attracting new businesses.  These efforts also seek to improve the vitality of the business districts including the creation/retention of jobs and encouraging increased commercial investment in Mount Washington.

The MWCDC works closely with the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) to ensure the success of Mount Washington’s business development goals implemented through the Main Street Program.

Community Development

The MWCDC community development initiatives include goals for Parks and Open Spaces, Public Safety, and Energy Assistance.  We seek to provide an unsurpassed urban green space through competitive amenities and proper management of Emerald View Park while supporting sustainable development around the edges of the park.  Projects include the creation of the Trail Plan, hosting park events, and involving the community in park stewardship.

The MWCDC looks to address public safety issues with the aim of creating a walkable community where residents feel secure and visitors feel welcomed.  Starting in 2010 the MWCDC paired with the Allentown Community Development Corporation and Beltzhoover Neighborhood Council to bring a Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank Farm Stand to Warrington Avenue.  We also provide energy assistance to residents through reduced rate programs and increased awareness of energy efficiency measures.

Human Development

Through the Homework Helpers program and partnerships with schools and community groups, the MWCDC seeks to offer the high quality and professional after school programming to youth in our service area.
